One of the first issues that galvanised the community in Waiatarua was a rates rise for rural areas in the 1960’s.

Protection of the local flora and fauna has also been an issue ever since the Kauri forests began disappearing up here, and this has grown in awareness as Auckland expands.

Today there are a range of issues that the WRRA maintain a watch on and advocate for on behalf of our community.
