Recycling just got easier with 240 litre bins coming to Waitakere from May 2.

Wheelie bins are making their way out west.

Waitakere residents will receive 240 litre bins for recycling which will replace the 140 litre bins.

More than 210,000 households in legacy Rodney, North Shore and Waitakere are set to receive the new bins between April 4 and June 30.

Auckland Council says this will bring residents in line with most other Auckland households which already have 240 litre bins.

The new bins have a greater capacity for more recyclable items.

Cardboard and paper will no longer need to be separated and can all go into the same bin.

Separate collections for these items will cease at the end of June.
